Is there any way to lock onto a specific cell tower or to block a cell phone tower? I live next to a mall and my phone likes to lock onto the crappy mall tower and not the one that is faster and has better signal. The bars jump all around and using Tasker to display the tower data proves that i am changing towers by moving to the next room. I have a custom PRL right now is there also any way to manually edit the PRL to only use a specific tower? I understand i will lose access to the other tower but I'm a home-body anyway. Thanks.

I used to have a similar problem. I lived by the highway so I would lock onto the highway tower which was constantly booting me off.

The next tower over when I would lock onto it would be perfectly fine...

The only solution I could find was installing an airrave so I didn't use either tower.

If you complain enough they may give it to you for free*

No. The PRL only controls what cell systems you connect to. It has nothing to do with individual towers.

Get an Airave or use wifi for your data needs.

Download RoamControl and force roam during the time you absolutely have to have your cell signal in a certain low-signal location. Maybe it is even possible to tie it to Tasker profile... the latter seems unlikely though.

Sometimes you need to lock on a specific cell tower due to bad cell conditions such as low data speed or because you need to test another nearby cell condition. I will teach you how to do that on Samsung Galaxy S6.

You need to run a secret code but Samsung has prevented you to run it from the phone Dialer, so you need to root your phone and manually execute the command.

Do the job at your own risk. We won't take responsibility if any damage is caused.

Requirements:
– A rooted Samsung Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge.
– Terminal Shortcut app. You can get it from Google Play Store

Follow the instructions:
1. Open Terminal Shortcut app.
2. Create a new Local Android/Linux shell shortcut and set the command to the following code:

am broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE -d android_secret_code://2580
1

am broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE -d android_secret_code://2580

3. Check 'Run with root privileges' and un-check 'Show output' then tap save.
4. Run the shortcut and a window similar to the one below will open:
2580menu

Get Current Cell Information
Before you begin, there are 3 pieces of information you need to get from LTE-BASIC Info window. you can open the info window by dialing *#0011# or running the previously created shortcut and go to Protocol > Basic Information.

LTE Cell Locking
1. Go to UE Setting & Information > Setting > Protocol > AS > Frequency Lock > LTE Cell Locking.
2. Set the following as instructed, then tap on Cell Locking:
– Band: The band on which your LTE provider operates.
– EARFCN: Equals to DL Frequency.
– PCI(Physical Cell Identifier): To lock on a specific cell, you need to know PCI numbers of the cell towers around you, unfortunately you can't get a list of neighbour cells from your device so you need to collect them by going near the cell towers and write them down.
3. Reboot your device.

WCDMA Cell Locking
1. Get neighbour cells PSCs from Protocol > AS Information > Neighbour Cell Information.
2. Go to UE Setting & Information > Setting > Protocol > AS > Frequency Lock > WCDMA Cell Locking.
3. Set Band, UARFCN and PSC then tap on Cell Locking.
4. Turn On/Off Airplane Mode.

GSM Cell Locking
1. Get neighbour cells ARFCNs from Protocol > AS Information > Neighbour Cell Information. Values displayed here are in HEX, you need to convert them to DEC.
2. Go to UE Setting & Information > Setting > Protocol > AS > Frequency Lock > GSM Cell Locking.
3. Set Band and ARFCN then tap on Cell Locking.
4. Turn On/Off Airplane Mode.

Reset Cell Locking
1. Go to UE Setting & Information > Setting > Protocol > AS > Frequency Lock > Reset.
2. Reboot your device
